Yes I'm An Idiot, But What Do I Do Now?
First off the bat I have to thank everyone for their excellent advice on getting my Ski Doo up and running. Thanks to you guys I got it running great and starting on the first pull. My latest problem is in regards to my older (1989?) Yamaha Phazer. I was replacing the seat and had to drill through the front phillips screws due to it being rusted and stripped. Well I drilled through the one side no problem on the second side my bit went right throught the side of the gas tank! A bunch of four letter words followed as gas came streaming out. The hole is in a very accessible spot if I were to repair it. My question is how do I repair it and with what? I would love to be able to keep it and repair versus replacing the tank but am I better off replacing it? It is a hole a little smaller then a pencil diameter. What to use and how?
Thanks!

I would get a plastic body filler plug from a parts store, remove the tank, put the plug in, and melt the edges sealing the tank. Obv. there are precautions you must do/take before you melt it in.

This would be good advise if you were on the trail or out riding. Follow TheLrey's advise and it will look better in the end. Winter is still a month out you have time.

i had about 12 holes sizing from lil tiny hole to i could drop dimes in there i removed my gas tank le tit air out for 2 weeks ( all my toys are at vacation house so i go up there once in awhile ) when i got back i sanded down the bottom of the tank ( where the holes were ) and sodered them all shut, i let it dry filled the tank with water check for leaks, nothing leaked, filled it with gas see how it would hold up and it held perfect.

Ok, i would take a tube of right stuff, and put the nozzle right tight to the gas tank. then put it in for about 5 seconds then slowly pull it out and swirl it around itself like 3 times. then take a rag or just your finger and blend it in with the tank. but it's ok ifit sticks out farther than the tank. then take off the cap and let dry for about a day. then put some gas in it and see if it leaks. thenif it does then take a tire plug and put it in there after putting a ton of rubber cement on it.

that is s tupid i dea. why would you fill your gas tank with water? all that is gonna do is mess up your carbs.and soldier only works on copper. unless you have a metal gas tank and welded it.

Actually water doesn't harm your carbs as bad as you'd think, and if you swish a bit of gas in it afterward you'll be fine. It causes backfire and might foul a plug, but unless you're running a LOT of water, it isn't much of a problem.
