how about I setup a site and host them on my webspace? I have a terrabyte of space to dick around with, so i dont mind the traffic at all.

what i can do is setup and ftp to some of my space and you guys can just drop the files in there. zip them up or whatever. I dont care. I'll then make a pretty page that you can click on.

ok, i've been dinking around with it this morning. I'v epretty much setup a page that allows the manuals to be viewed or downloaded.

now the hard part. getting these manuals uploaded to me. seeing they are large, they need to be ftp'ed. how many know how to use ftp? or zip files? i've setup a ftp page here:

ftp://chadt.us
username: snowmobile@chadt.us
password: manual

i've setup brand names, and folders within. now if every can do this, perfect, but it may be harder for some that hanvn't done this before.

jlind, mind trying to upload a manual?

here is a link to the site. Snowmobile Manuals

I also have a link on the main page for uploading the files. If you click on the link and get prompted for a password, just click the login button at the very top of the page. then you should be able to drill down to the make and year of the manual you have. the go to actions and click on upload, or java upload.

There really isn't an easy way to do this, but if any of you have the files that are listed on this page, can you shoot me a PM? I should not have time to help you load the files on the site.

If you happen to be able to upload the files on your own, shoot me a PM telling me where you have uploaded the files. I.E. Model and year.

I have the folder structure setup by Make, then year.

If you know how to FTP files, that would probably be best.

These are the settings you need:

ftp site: chadt.us
username: snowmobile@chadt.us
password: manual

I sure hope we can ge tthis off the ground...

yea, for now i'll just have people download from the website. I'm working on trying to gather more manuals plus the ones mentioned here. the first links give me a "bad link given" message, so i am betting htye are gone or hte link has changed. anyone have those? sure would be nice to grab them.

and yes, the files are pretty large. but if you really wnat the files, or have something to fix, they are worth the wait.

just a heads up chad, if this ftp is a site that you pay the bills on you might want to give some thought to the copy write issues you are opening your self up to.

there are 2 things that i thought of.

1. I setup a user account for just the ftp folder that you can see. the account is worthless anywhere else on my webspace. I also do not place any personal info or credit info there.

2. I've thought about the logo's. If i need to, i'll remove them if i am notified. Now the manuals themselves, thats a tough one. seeing people are paying for them on ebay up to $10 each, i think i would be safe seeing i am taking no money from anyone and never will. I also will not be doing any google adsense either.

Other than this, I am hoping this is safe. but i am sure i will find out!

that's my thought on giving them away also. The ones on ebay are all bootleg so screw those guy, i'll give away what they are trying to make money on.

I am just saying, if one of these companies want to go after you all they have to do is get your information from the hosting company. This is a site you pay $ for right?

I don't think your safe with the not charging money logic, think about all the people that were sued for mp3's

You'll probably be okay.

I downloaded both the AC and Polaris manuals a few days ago. I'm having internet problems at the house right now though, so I can't get them to you as of now.

I noted the Polaris manual is missing Chapter 10. I have the paper manual, which is older than the version posted...
