throttle is the trick, basically. just stay on it. turning and manuevering comes later, but for straight line shots all you need to do is gas it.
there are some cool pics on Here you may find interesting. in the second pic, you see a bridge in the background. a couple guys from our club were up there when they saw the guy on the yellow mxz hit one of the pillars. everyone helped pull the sled up, after some kid was paid to dive down and hook it up. great place. a bit off topic, i know, but thought you would like the pics.

Yeah if you're serious about trying it, do it in a shallow part first. And whatever you do, don't let off the throttle haha. This year I'm going to try turning and stuff. At the NH Water Crossing I saw that you need the skis in the air to do this. So I think when I first hit the water I'll try it when my skis are in the air.

if you have never done it before i would highly recommend trying short distances first. like 8-9 ft then work your way up. i started that way, skimming the open water spot infront of my dock then moving to the open channels.

If you lose your sled, come back to get it in the night. There are huge fines around these parts for polluting the lake. Probably more $ in fines then the sleds worth

yeah, thats why when one went under out at the Fiery Grill (Dorsett, ONT), he just paid a kid to dive and hook his sled up, and then the people there helped him. didnt call who you'd usually call to avoid fines.

Yeah same here. Last year we were jumping an open pressure ridge on the lake and the game warden said it was illegal, and I told him "We weren't skipping water, we completely missed the water." He didn't take to kindly to it

With the sled you have I wouldn't go to far or over deep water. My cousin had a Indy 500 and about 30 feet was all he could go unless he was wide open with a good head of steam (70mph+). Best thing to do is find a field that's flooded in the spring and practice. As for turning it's pretty much like riding powder or a street bike. Lean and turn the other way but be carefull because to much throttle on a larger cc sled will spin out and don't get your belt wet.

its a really new experience.... i skipped a large spot under a cause way last year it was a rush on my 84 srv.... my buddy did it on a phazer so i said might as well....then we seen a guy go over it with an older 300 cc yamaha he was nutz but made it... ran over it a couple more times it getting longer every time.. then the last run it just made it and that was enough..lol
once i get my new pipe on and get rid of that ****ty yamaha track and get a track with some actual lug or paddle to it it should do better...

haha, last year i used my buddies sled, took it for like 1/2 hour. i was screwing along, about 85-90 across the lake, all of a sudden, i hit one of the drops (when the ice cracked and droped, lucky i was going over it and not into it!!)
anyway, i cranked over it, when i landed all i saw was water, about 40 feet infront of me!!!! im like SH$# i knew i couldnt stop, so i nailed it, it was about 30 feet. i nearly messed myself!!
i wasnt ready for it at all.
i would try it again, but on someone ealses sled. lol
