which sled

im leaving afganistan apr 1. i'll be home just in time to buy a x model. i dont know whether i should get a summit x 144, or a mxz renegade x 800ho. they are about a the same price, i think. im currently in alaska, and i'll be there for 2 more yrs. but i dont know where i'll be going after. would the summit do ok on trails, or should i go with the mxz. main concern is if i get stationed somewhere else where the deep snow is hard to find, would the summit be in at a disadvantage? thanks

The summit is a very aggressive sled trackwise. It has tall lugs and the track is pretty long. I couldn't use one around NH, as there's really nothing here that would fit where that sled would ride. you could always buy the summit, use it for the 2 years you're in AK, then trade to the other when you leave. I'd trade it while still there, as there is a higher demand for them there.

I would advise you not to, you alredy have great flotation with a 136, all you would be doing is slowing down the sled.

but would the 1.25 track be able to push through the deep snow well enough to keep up that speed?, and would getting a bigger one slow me down a whole lot?

Speaking from experience, go with the summit here in alaska.
having a renegade won't get you where you want to go in the deep stuff. trust me i know. it's wider than the summit and does not get up and go when it gets deep. the track needs more lug.
the power is fine, just doesn't push enough snow. i just snow-checked a summit for next year! You can always get good money for a summit here before you leave, then get a trail sled if thats what suits were you are headed.
