Head Installation Help?
I am going to get a head and a head gasket today and install myself, and have done by the end of this week if everything goes well. I do on the other hand need a bit of help tho. Where do I go to get the heads out and what can I expect after I take them out. I want to learn how to do this bc i have a feeling it could occur again. Would I also have to put compression back in it, or will the engine create its own compression. Any help please?
This is on my 1972 TNT Skidoo by the way.

You will have to unistall your track, and once you do so get up under the tunnel. You will see the electric Start and what not, the heads will be right there, along with the spark plugs, go ahead and yank on them very hard, they should come out easily. After that get some glue and tape, rap the olds ones and dont loose them. Then get your new ones and get some electrical tape and push them in there, and tape them in. Afterwards to get compression take a bike pump and pump 128ips.

sorry wrong idea, just ignore the coolant parts, the main thing is to buy new gaskets and grease them up before unstalation.

Take the tinwork off the engine (the metal covers where the spark plugs go) . Then there are nuts on top of the engine. Those hold the head on. Take those nuts off, and the head is off! The gasket is right there. You don't grease the gasket, because it's not an O-ring, it's a solid material. Just put the new gasket and head on, then torque the nuts to the proper specs. Ask Woody the spec when you E-mail him.

I thought my friend had the E-mail address, but he doesn't. Just call him back and get it. You need a torque wrench to measure the tightness of the nuts.

okay good, so after i take the head off. What will it look like. Will the gasket that i blew be losely just sitting there? And if so do i take it off and put the new one where? After I put the head back dont I have to align the heads and make sure there flat on the plane?

When you take the nuts off, the head will pull right off, and the gasket will be right under it. Just put the new one on, put the head back on, and torque down the nuts.
