stator

could anybody tell me how to remove and also test the stator on my 1997 mxz 440 lc i know that you can chack the ohms on a multimeter but where do u test and what should i get for a reading also is that stator what controls the head light and tach and could possibly cause a no spark condition thanks

When you pull it over the light should come on for a bit if the stator is good. But the stator is divided into a trigger coil for the engine and a lighting coil for the accessories, lights, etc. Not sure how to ohm it.

thanks for the help my lights were getting really dim befor the sled died and a voltage regulator didnt fix the problem so im assuming that stator is junk. any information on how to rmove it? thanks

Remove the recoil. Then get the PROPER puller and remove the flywheel. Don't thread the puller bolts in too far or they will contact the windings and trash the stator. Once you pull the flywheel, it's under it. Scribe a line from the stator to the mounting surface so you can line it up perfectly when you put it back on.
