01 mxz700 all over the trail
I went for a ride today with my wife on the back of the sled. It was a good ride besides the sled going all over the trail. This also does it when im alone. My buddy says its my skis catching other grooves. How can i prevent that. Also my tunnel rails are smooth and not grooved for better foot grip. Was thinking about taking sheet metal screws and putting them along the outside for grip. Any ideas?

Increase the spring pre load at the front of the skid by one full turn to reduce the ski down pressure.
Check that the skegs are not too worn and that you have enough for positive steering.

How much carbide do you have on your skis? Is the track studded? They make grip strips for your running boards.

Front of the skid? Turn it right of left. To me they look worn but there is still carbide there. Probably 1/8 inch before the wear bars. I plan on studding the track. It is a ripsaw 1.25 track so not sure what studs to go with as far as brand and what not. I will ne ordering the grips

Replace the carbides. If you have NO picks, go with 4". If you are going with trail picks (96 or so), get 6".

What type of carbides should i go with. Would 48 picks work? I just want enough traction to cross lakes and stuff

I'd go with 6" carbide and 96 [minimum] studs, 48 would just be asking for pull pull outs.

Go with one of our site sponsors, Woodys Traction Products.
I personally would use the screw in studs [less weight and cheaper to install] and 6" single bar. I have driven sleds with duals on, but thought that they added too much steering drag.

Ok i will go with single. I read on the forum somewhere that someone had the screw ins and they destroyed the ripsaw track. Was looking at the trailmax from www.snowmobilestud.com

That would be news, but never heard of it myself or had it happen to me.
I could see it happening if they were installed too close to the edge of a lug though where they might tear out.

I've only used original studs, the ones you drill holes in the track. But if you're not doing any crazy riding where you have a ton of track spin, use the screw-ins.

I took my sled for a ride today and was scared to go over 40 it was darting so bad. A couple of times it would shoot me right across the trail. I tried spring preload but nothing helped it. Any ideas?

Did you verify toe out?
The skis should have between 1/8 to 1/4" toe out when measured at appx 10" ahead of the spindles.
