'97 Summit - LOTS of oil in pipe...

I seem to remember something similar last season, but I wish I knew WHY. Seems the first few times I run the Doo, it smokes like crazy. Then, when I park it, I come out the next day to a two foot diameter puddle of oil on the garage floor.

Assuming I have the oiler set properly (it doesn't smoke the rest of the season, and uses oil at a rate consistent with a 50:1 ratio), how is THAT much oil getting into the pipe?

Replace the pump. The seal may be gone, allowing oil to get into the engine. Pumps are cheap.

Couldn't I just replace the seal then? Looks like pump would run about $40 or so... used, on eBay.

Not sure if the pump seals are servicable. Check www.hlsm.com and see if the ycan be replaced.

Re: '97 Summit - LOTS of oil in pipe...

I have a 1999 formula deluxe 670 with the same problem. My dealer says it is the oil seal on the rotary valve shaft.
