What is the best way to test the voltage on a 91 Ski Doo Safari 377. I want to confirm that the voltage regulator is not working properly before I replace it. It blew a brand new bulb the last time I started it... No need to hurry on the response, its going to be 51 tomorrow with rain and 58 on Saturday. Not even sure why I'm bothering with it now!.

There should be 30-40 VAC coming out of the motor into the regulator, and no more than about 13VDC or so out of the regulator.

Thanks SEG! Just a couple more questions.

1. Can I test the voltage output at the light socket or the battery leads?

2. Should the motor be reving up to test voltage, or should it be tested at idle?

Both, at idle you would get around 12.5vac and past 1/3 throttle [3000 rpm] you would be about 28vac before the regulator and at wot, as much as 40vac.
at the battery, you should never get more than 14.5vdc and a minimum of 12.5vdc.
