Jumping speedometer needle

I have a 800 summit. The speedometer needle jumps from 0 to 120 while idling. Lights, tach and warmers all see to be ok. Any suggestions?

probably a bad speedo cable or bad speedo drive adapter, check those, in that order. Also, to make sure its not the speedometer itself, you can remove it and using a drill, stick the right size driver in the cable hole, run the drill and see what happens, be careful to not mess up the driver hole..

If you idle it up a little does it stop?

Update on the jumping speedo needle. Checked the relay found it ok. Needed to back the sled up to work on it. Crazy, it fixed itself. Speedo cable must have screwed up. Fingers crossed on staying fixed.
Thanks for the info!

There is no cable on that machine... it has a speed sensor on the lower left side drive.
Check the plug for the speed sensor at lower left corner of the gas tank behind secondary and you may find some corrosion in it. If not check the plugs going to speedo and tach under the console to make sure they are tight.
