1995 Skidoo GT 580 Battery Issue

Hello folks...the battery keeps loosing it's charge in the 95 Skidoo GT and it a Yuasa (same as that's in my 2011 Skandic WT 600ETech). New sled has no issue keeping charge @ -20C but 95 GT sometimes needs boost. Here's my question...the starter ckt in the the 95 is pretty simple, but could a faulty solenoid keep drawing some power from the battery? The keyswitch enables power from battery to go to solenoid, to engage the starter, but I suspect that I have either a +12V cable gone to ground somewhere (it's not melted in any areas that I can see), or something else. I hope this weekend to do some resistance tests between the +12V cables and ground, and also voltage checks. any tips or suggestions...thanks.

Key switch would be my first area to look at. If you had a direct short on a wire/cable, you'd know it! Unplug the key switch and see if the battery stays up.

I'll give that a try!

Now I have a good one for you. My daughter wanted to go out for a run with friends, and as soon as I fired it up I new a plug was gone! Sure enough the plug on the PTO was not firing (was a new plug installed a month ago). I have the oil injection disconnected, and am running mixed gas, but this machine keep blowing the plug on the PTO side all the time, and I suspect that I have an electrical issue vs a oil injection issue. Have you seen where a faulty Sator or CDI unit can cause this? The coil was replaced last year. Really stumped on this one! any ideas?????

Merry xmas to you and your family!

Have you tried trimming the plug wire?
Clip off 1/4" and reattach the end cap.

Thanks RJ....I will give that a try.. pretty sure I trimmed them when I put the new coil on as the new one was too long and close to the exhaust manifold. But at this point....I'm stumped why the plugs are going dead. Not fouling..just no spark! I they are new BR9ES's I always put in. I'm thinking a bad CDI unit????

CDI's are bad or good- period. The sled would not run. If it's only one side, I'd say coil again. Stator/CDI controls BOTH sides. Plug wire, coil ground?

It was a OEM one I bought last year. I checked the setting on the needle jet and it wasn't lean. I will clip the plug wire as RJ Gleason suggested. If the carb boot was bad and leaking air in,it would cause the plug to run hot correct?
