Question 2003 SkidooMXZ600RER Back Fires

Hi,

I have notice that everytime I client the RER button to backup that my sled will back fire. I am not touching the gas or anything when I hit this button. Then if I hit the kill switch after stopping it will do a small back fire.

Has anyone heard of this and what can I check to fix this problem? Or is this normal?

Thanks,

Dennis

My 04 Summit will offer a mellow "woof" after shutting it down immediately after a REALLY hard whoopin at WOT. I figure its from alot of collected unburnt fuel in the pipe. Ive seen alot of other sleds do it too. Except 4strokes..Hmm wonder why??
But a backfire when cycling into reverse? Could be something wrong with the computer when it adjusts the timing to make the engine run backwards.. Mine had a helluva time going into RER when it was new. It would not reverse unless you cracked the throttle. I'd take it in to a competent service dept and see what the deal is. Might be something simple.. like jetted just rich enough to cough when engaging RER. Im not reall familiar with the trail sleds MPEM (sp?), the mountain sleds are different. Mine has DPM.

Sled back fires put in reverse

One more question:

Ran the sled on a 60mile trip and during the 60 mile trip I put it in Reverse acouple of times. Well the sled did not back fire, so that was good. So, when I returned to my trailer and then put it in reverse the sled back fired and shut off.

I then pulled it over and it started right up and put it in reverse without a problem.

My question is could this be caused by the computer, stator, or internals of the engine? Basically I was wondering is this a major issue?

Thanks in advance,

Hi All,

Have found the problem, which I fixed it.

Found out that I had the incorrect plugs in the Engine BR9ES, which my sled is surposed to run BR9ESC in it. I bought the sled used 2 years ago and I kept running the same plugs in it that it had. Talked to acouple of people and they said it was the plugs fouling out. With that said I ran the BR9ESC all day used reverse acouple of times and did 125miles without the one back fire. Overall the sled seemed to have more power and ran allot smoother.

Guess you need to try different things in a sled to see what will happen.

Thanks for the previous information. Happy Trails!!
