Mid to Early 90's Safari's
My cousin has two 90's something 377 Safari's that he has left out side for the last 10 years. Upon him coming up to get his pontoon up I asked him what he was going to do with them. He said he was gonna scrap them, and if I wanted them. Of course I jumped on the opportunity. 1 is a single carb one up seat and the other is an electric start, dual carb two up model. The yellow (single carb) had an issue years ago dieing on the ice. After dumping some gas down the mag side cylinder it fired, PTO side did nothing and feels like it has no compression. Also, it looks like the carb has been scabbed... Parts Sled!!! The purple sled (dual carb) fired on both cylinders through the air box. After inspecting a little more it looks like it will need a fuel pump rebuild, new fuel filter, fuel lines, primer lines, spark plugs, and a good general cleaning. So here is my question. How do i get the seat off to get to the tank to clean it out and replace the fuel filter? Everything else looks pretty simple to work on, cant wait!!! Thanks for the input all!!!

Should be 6 nuts under the tunnel. The tank is usually mounted to the seat.

There are 2 10mm bolts on the very back corners under the tunnel. That will get the seat off. The tank is a separate part on Safaris.

Formula series have the tank as a part of the seat.

The front of the Safari seat hooks to a clamp just behind the tank. The tanks aren't covered on Safaris.

Okay, got 4 bolts out of the back, if its bolted in the front how do you get to them without dropping the suspension? If its clipped, how does that work? How hard are those 377's to rebuild? Any chance it could be expanded to a 440? I'm wondering if it would be worth it to fix the parts sled and sell my 85 XLV Yamaha.

Are you still trying to remove the seat? There are only 2 10mm nuts in the back corners to remove it- period. Not sure what 4 bolts you removed? The back of the seat will lift up, then you can pull it backwards off of the front clip- done.

There were 4 10mm bolts that held the back of the seat down. I am working at a snails pace on this for a few reasons... 3rd shift sucks, lack of money for parts at this time, and waiting on the neighbor to move his car out of my dads garage so i can pull it in and start into it. I will try to pull the seat straight back with authority the next time I can get 5 minutes to myself.
Thanks All! I should also ask, where exactly the fuel filter is located in the tank, in the yamaha's its under the seat. might not have to remove the seat if its not needed. any ideas on the rebuild?

Well, what a week makes. Took advantage of the day off and got the tank off, the carbs off, and the air box out of the way...Not in that order! Tank is NASTY gross varnished gas, what can i do to clean it out? Im going to get new fuel line and a rebuild kit for the fuel pump tomorrow. The carbs are not horrible, but are varnished in the bowls. My question is... do I just clean what I can, or take them in and have them rebuilt as I dont really feel comfortable doing it myself... Dis-assembly and reassembly are fine, but its the syncing of them that scares me. Im definatly going to have to use the other sled for parts, it looks like the oil tank has been repaired with RTV sealant and did not hold. Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Love this site!!!

Use the tutorial in the Tech section under "how to" and you will have no problems with the carbs.
You can use a hot soldering iron to "weld" the tank back up.
I would definitely do the carbs up thoroughly though.

May have to do some measuring and comparing see if I can make it work. Is that chassis still complete? Would be lighter then the prs!

The tutorial will give you a step by step instruction on cleaning the carb. Super easy!

Thanks SEG, carbs are cleaned and ready to reinstall. Went up to Houghton Lake to get my fuel line and other misc parts to complete the rebuild and the place I wanted to go is out of business.... Makes me wonder what else in this country/economy will close before some big box store runs them out of business.... So now, my next request... any good aftermarket websites to get parts from? If I dont have to go to a Ski Doo dealer, that would be ideal.
On another note, what is the torque specs for a 5hp Briggs and Stratton horizontal shaft engine? I dont have the s/n# or model# on hand. I broke the crank outside of the block and will need a new crankshaft to put on my dad's leaf blower (yeah.. not a good thing this time of year!).
Thanks All!!!
