Question please help!!

we have what is believed to be a 1999 ski doo mxzx 440cc l/c rotax sled . my problem is that the parts are not matching the sled! we recently found out that the hood is a 2001 and we can not find the engine serial number needed for registration. The little stamp thats suppose to be on/above the recoil is gone! therefore how else can we idenitfy this motor? the motor has recently been rebuilt, which was done by previous owner. some other things; has 34mm mikuni carbs on it, the number on ouitside of clutch is 417-222-083, see through gas tank, and HPG shocks all the way around....ANY help is greatly appreciated, pics are attached

The only ID numbers on a Rotax are on that plate. There are block P/N stamps, but they have nothing to do with the engine ID.

The carbs sound correct for that year motor TMX 34-1 however I'm sure that's not the only motor they were sold on.

The chassis vin on that 99 should start with 1343 if it was made for the US and 1342 if it was made for Canada.

Earlier model sleds had the engine # stamped on the left side of the crank case. Yours however should be on a plate where the recoil mounts up.

That 417 number is the part # for the clutch cup. If only for registration purposes, simply use the 417- number (or any # you can find on the engine) as the engine s/n. It meets the requirements of the DMV. Cheers.
