need a little help

okay, I have 1995 formula SL. When I'm idoling i have to keep reving the engine for it not to stall if i stop reving it the rpms will slowly go down and eventually it will stall. When i feel it's gonna stall i have to rev it up with really quick short revs if i just push the throttle fully down it does barely anything the rpms only go up when i give it the quick short revs. can anyone tell what it could be that makes it do this? also, seems like the clutch starts to grab around 4000 RPMs does that sound right? I can only get it up yto like 55-60 it's a 500cc. thanks to any help i get

Ya know, I have a 98 MXZ 440 that did that. Although this may not be your solution, mine was focused around the choke. My left carb's choke was sticking in the ON position because it was corroded. When I unscrewed where the choke pluger goes into the carb and lifted the plunger out, I saw it was funky and filled with crud. I tried cleaning it as best I could. I eventually bought a choke rebuild kit from Dennis Kirk online. It had that new plunger.

Today, it starts somewhat OK but not as nicely as my 670. It also has that crappy acceleration you mentioned where you have to feather the throttle to get it to rev up. This may be classified as a low-end bog, I donno. I'll keep reading this post to see if anyone has a more exact answer.

My clutch kicks it at around 4k and top speed for my 440 is only 55 or so. I'm a big dude and with my fast ass on the sled adding 225lbs it's about all I can get out of it! I keep the 440 as a back up or for friends.

Sorry if I can't give you more info.
Ed

I had a 1997 Formula 500 that used to die eventually if you let it sit and idle. If you shut it off after idling for a while you had to hold the throttle wide open to get it going because it had nearly flooded itself. I put in smaller idle jets and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps!

Idle

I have a 96 500SL, 12000 km and does the same, only when cold though. A little bit of primer goes a long way. Top end, ours is a two up and it likes 60-65mph but its a dog after that. It's a fan and heavy what can I expect. Also very heavy on the recoil pull start. It's definately not my XCSP500!
