New Sled Break-In
Alright, gotta question that I have heard different opinions on. I have heard that Ski-Doo has a small wire (or something similar) wired into the ECM that retards timing during a break-in period of around 150-200 miles which prevents the sled from producing full horsepower until that wire disconnects itself. I have heard after this takes place the sled (which seemed quick on the first ride) will seem even quicker. I am talking about newer sleds, from say, 2003 up, namely REV's. Any info on this guys? Seems the 'doo guys are giving the people a foolproof way of breaking a new sled in correctly, even if your riding it hard.

I know when you first get some sleds they have the oiler up so it feeds the engine more oil plus mixing oil in the gas. Once the gas is through and the pump is set how it will be after breakin it will definetly seem faster.

I hit the 300 mile mark yesterday while riding from Charlies Inn near Saranac Lake NY. (wow!!, only snow in the state) Suddenly I was breaking my track loose at 60mph!! You will see the difference right away. I have the 600 HO Adreline and I love the thing to death. Nothing like cruising through big bumps @70. I will tempt fate on this one. Anyone still riding an old platform SELL IT!!! You cant imagine the difference!!

I rode my cousins Rev this weekend, and the set up is offly weird. It makes you sit up in a akward position

They look like a great sled. I hear the suspension is great. Does Yamaha have anything suspension like that?

Yamaha, doesn't offer anything like the REV. I know they have upgraded the rear suspensions on the 2005's (which was long overdue). I am also a REV owner, and would never ride anything else. True, the first ride on one of these will feel "weird", but give it 30 or 40 miles and you'll ask yourself how you ever rode a traditional chassis. If you tend to stand on the sled through the rough sections of the trails (or enjoy pounding the whoops) this is the sled for you. It is also fine as a regular trail/touring sled.

hey proxxx, you mentioned the 300 mile mark where you actually "felt" more power? Heck, with absolutely ALL the snow gone in Western New York (it's 45 and raining right now) I'll probably never even get to 300miles. To make matters worse, a bunch of us were supposed to leave for Tug Hill next Friday, and they have lost most of their snow. Now we have to pospone.

skidoobudman8, hang in there. I know, I live in Binghamton. I could mow my lawn right now. Keep an eye on the forcast, Tug Hill can get a winters worth of snow in 10hrs. You might want to consider Charlies Inn, Lake Clear junction NY. I was in 12 inches of snow when I stepped off the trail in spots. The miles come quick up there, nice long straights for miles and miles. We did 126 miles in 3hrs and 26 minutes - The speedo on the REV can be read in hrs also....Don't kick dirt on the winter just yet, I have a feeling some nasty storms are just around the corner...
As far as the old platforms - thier dead. I cant believe I ever rode one. I rode my friends 01 Pro X yesterday and it felt like an old wood wagon!! Essentially, there is 2 masses of weight and gravity on conventional sleds - The motor and You - You are so close to the motor on the REV there is only ONE weight mass, therefore substantially reducing the slapping and banging around. It's very difficult even at high speeds to get the front skis off the ground in the bumps on a REV making for a comfortable, almost mysterious ride through rough stuff. Hell, I dont care if I ever see another groomer again....

Thanks for the info proxxx! Binghamton huh? I work down there every 5 weeks or so. You guys got a good amount of snow last year didn't you? I'm from Buffalo, so 50 degrees and rain on New Year's Eve feels really weird. We tried to go for a "ripper" last Sunday, and half the time we were on frozen grass and mud, had to find some fresh stuff too keep the hyfax's lubed up with snow. It was a total desparation run, but I felt really bad riding an 05' REV "X" in such junk. As far as the Tug Hill region, we usually stay in Brantingham, then ride the hill, Stillwater that whole region. Check out this website: www.absolutesnowmobile.com They have web cams, and the best riding reports for the region. Like you said though, they can get whacked with a storm in a day. Were gonna wait until Monday to see if we are going to postpone or not.
