Safari 447 LXE Carbs

So I cleaned my carbs and replaced my throttle cable. The engine idles at about 2500RPM, but no big deal. My concern is how I have the needle valves set up. I adjusted them just to the point where I no longer have any play in the thumb throttle. The sled tops out at about 90km/h, with a ****ty track and no studs. Keep in mind I weigh 240lbs and this sled is also heavy as hell.. Heh. Only sled I could afford.

Do you think this speed is normal? My friend's Polaris INdy 500 gets about 140km/h but this thing is liquid cooled and 7 years newer with studs.

That's all that the gearing will let you do. Need to regear it to go faster. Worth it? your call.....

What can i do about the high idle? It seems that the higher I adjust the cable where it goes into the valve, I get a much better feel on the thumb throttle (and no play) but unfortunately a much higher idle. Should I fiddle with the idle screws? It idles between 2500 and 3000 rpm now.

There should be around 1/8 inch of play in the cable before it does anything. Moving the cable up is just lifting the slide off the idle screw. Let it back down to rest on the screw again and set it so it has the play mentioned above.

ok

Ok.. SO i adjusted the cables so the threads are showing the same as on my friend's Formula SL. it is revving pretty high. Lke 2500 or so. Do you think I should adjust the idle screws, as this is a different brand of throttle cable and it might be calibrated differently?

When i had the cables screwed in deep down the other night i was only getting around 70km/h when i normally hit 90

Use the idle screws to idle it down, turn each a half turn at a time and it should come down. Put your finger on the idle screw and when you let off the throttle, you should feel the slide hit the screw. If you don't, you need to let the top cable in some more. I guess it's a matter of what you want, more speed or lower idle.

Ok thanks for your help. I have the idle just under 2000 now. Good enough for me.

In terms of the top end.. I jacked up the back end and just gunned it. I get over 8000 rpm's.. Is this normal?> I just don't want to blow a piston or anything

Thanks! Have a happy new year i!

That's OK with the track off the ground.
