blew belt in 96 670 now speedo cable broke

ok. I was riding in my field and gunned it and the clutch slipped all the teeth off of it and the belt came off. I put the new one on and what a pain cause that little metal thing in the rear that looks like its supposed to hold the belt on. anyways, went to take off and no speedometer. looked in there and the cable that goes into the chaincase or wherever the speedo sensor is is just undone. the cable has a rubber boot thing and the end of the cable is just an end of a cable. the cable doesn't feel frayed or anything. is there supposed to be a gear on the end or something or just the end of the cable. I mean when I say the end of the cable, there is nothing but cable. like some throttle cables have the ends that are chunks to fit in the carb or whatnot, this is just cable and nothing else. thanks.

They are usually threaded on with a kind of nut thingy, which is probably still attached to the part on the chaincase.

If it's just a cable sheath with nothing in it, it broke up inside and you need to get a new one....

A couple places on line, or through the dealer.
