How could i install a primer?

I have a 2000 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 and a cold start takes a lot of pulls just to get gas to the cylinders.how could i install a primer so that less pulls are necessary?

That sled has a choke corect? If its hard to start, usualy indicates a problem, like bad compression.. no need for a primer, thats just a cover up for a deeper problem,, check your compression

Definitely check compression first. Then make sure your choke plungers are working/adjusted correctly.

I just cleaned the carbs and changed spark plugs. the problem lies in geting fuel 4 feet from the gas tank to the cylinder. I asked "How could i install a primer?" not "Do i need a primer?"

Install a pump bulb in the gas line going to the carbs if you are so inclined. The fuel should not be running back to tank as it sits though. You do have a problem with chokes, fuel pump pinhole, shut off valve etc. I would find the cause nd fix the cause. Good luck.

^^^Easiest and cheapest way to add a primer.

You can also drill and tap the crankcase or carb (after the slide) for a direct injection of gas. Make sure to install all the appropriate check valves.

If this is a regular problem after having run the sled a short time before then follow your fellow sledder's advice and look into why this is happening as this is not normal. I can start my sleds after a few months of sitting with about two or three pulls. My Polaris sleds don't use a primer but have an enrichment circuit. My Ski-Doo does not have a choke or enrichment circuit but has a primer so I usually give it two shots before starting.

I would guess that your pilot jet is plugged with varnish from the gas evaporating. This is the smallest jet and also the one used when at idle speeds.

Side note: I read on this forum that a lot of areas in the states are using ethanol fuels. Ethanol is great at disolving the varnish and crud in the fuel system. Unfortunately, this newly released crud plugs fuel passages with jets being the bottleneck. Even if you don't use ethanol blend, new gas also dissolves old crud. This happens at the beginning of the season usually after the first ride for a lot of sledders.

Ok, were trying to offer our advice and find the real problem, I have 5 sleds and all have a choke, and i dont need to have a primer to start them... nor do alot of other members on here.. theres obviously a reason or problem why the fuel wont make it to the cylinder.. but hey, if u just want to use a cover up and add a primer go ahead..
