4500 citation newby help.

Hi ! i just bought a 81 citation 4500, it starts first pull but it kinda sounds weird... could it only be running on 1 cylinder ? i pulled both cap off of sparkplugs and set them on the engine, then i crancked it and only one was spitting fire... here is the weird thing, i plugged the one that wasnt firing and it stared first pulled and then i tried the one that was firing and it woldnt start i am going to get 2 new spark plug and wires tomorrow but if it still doesent fire on one of them, what should i look for ? and what is the point gaps, is it something you have do adjust once a while or ???

Thanks in advance !

No points on it, it's CDI.
See what happens after putting new plug in. If it still does it, then it's time for a compression test.

I got my new plugs and wire, and its now working A+ and for the points well that is what the guy told me to check if it still does it with new wire and plugs, and in the manual it also says that it can be adjusted, it says... breaker points(gap) .014'' ???

That would be right, gap is set through the ports in the flywheel with the timing cam advanced.

I went back and checked my book, some of that model had points and some of the later builds had CDI.

Is that a question? Excuse me if I misunderstood, but if you want to know what gapping would mean, you need a gap tool. It's inexpensive, there are two kinds. One resembles a coin, but it wouldn't go as low as .014 so you'd want the one shown in the pic I posted.

Plugs don't come pregaped which means they'll foul quicker. You simply use the tool to open up the gap until .014 fits snug (the numbers are on the tool). If the gap is too big, just lightly tap it down on a flat surface.

Sorry if this is unclear, it's difficult to explain.

It's about the points, not the plugs.
