MX 583 in an MX 470

Hello:

Any thoughts on whether I could install an MX 583 (1996) engine in an MX 470 (1990) sled? I'm assuming the CDI would need to be changed, but would there be other issues to contend with...Your opinion is appreciated...thanks Paul

Ummm idk if it would fit or not. but i had that idea once take a motor and put it into a diffrent frame ifyou have the entire sled that had teh 583 in it i could see it working, but as a wise mechanic once told me when i was going to do that if you don't have the sled just the motor it will nickle and dime you to death trying to put it together.

Anything can be made to work...I'm pretty sure that's a wider block than the 470. You'd have to drill your 470 mount to fit the 583 and make the clutch align.

Thanks (as usual) for the wisdom...I'm going to pursue a 470 engine for awhile longer, before considering a 583.....

Bang on

I installed a 470 engine in my machine which was challenging enough given some differences in wiring and CDI. Runs perfect.

If I had purchased the 583, I think it would have been extremely difficult to match pipes, electrics, etc.

A quick thanks for the advice...it paid off.
