2004 renegade crank bearings

I own an '04 "gade" with about 5'000 miles on it. ive been told its about time for the crank bearings to go due to the fact that the factory bearings are unservicable (can't grease 'em).

Can any one back up this info?

is it a difficult job (i did a piston last winter)?

are special tools needed?

what else should be replaced while i'm in there?

where's a good place to get a crank shaft (what should it cost)?

I don't think that's the case. There's a guy on another forum that has 8000 miles on his 04, no issues. Maybe turn the oiler up just a bit.
