99 Formula III 700 Issue

Hi guys, I snapped my key on my ignition, I tried unplugging the key unit connection and there was no change with how the sled operated. Does anyone know whether the key unit actually does anything? If I dont have to replace it Id rather not, its not an electric start sled...very confused what its purpose is on the sled. Thanks, Mike

It should shut the engine off when you turn it off, that's all, just like the kill switch.

I think that has the electronic chip in the key or something like that, so the key has to be within so many feet of the sled or it will only idle I think. The key holder probably is just a place to hold the key. Let me know if I am way off on this, but its an idea

Lotta people don't know it, but you don't need a key to start a sled, just disconnect the wires on the back of it and it'll start.

You can't do that on newer sleds, Twins. Go try it on a REV.
