I own a 96 mxz 583. I am interested in any quick and easy performance tricks for this sled. Some one had told me something about milling the cylinder head. I understand what they mean but how much do you need to mill it and what is the gain. Because of the age of the machine I do not want to invest alot into the machine if you know what I mean. But any input on machining the head or any low cost performance enhancers would be greatly appreciated.
For your 583 ...great motor ..about 108 hp stock. Mill the head so that you have no less then .055 inch squish band . Check this with solder before you take the head off , then mill what you need to to get close to 55 thou.
front clutch 280 ramps, solid pins , and purple/pink spring. secondary clutch the stock 50 works fine, but you could put in a 52/50/48 with about 14 lbs on tension. and dont forget to stud it too, 192 works well on this sled...
