MXZ recoil help!!!

I have a 99 mxz 670ho that i busted the spring on last year. I put a new spring on it, Put it all back together, And it pulls out about 2 ft before it engages, sometimes it don't engage at all. Any help to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff

This is a pull start, right?

Take it back apart.. Sorry to say..

I've dealt with these things for a while.. use some graphite lube or white-lith grease and grease up the pivot point and the guise 'track' on the engagement pawl. Wrap the cord around the disc a couple more times too, it'll help pull it back in a little more...

If you give it a quick snap, does it engage any easier?

Thanks for the info. I did the white lithium grease (no luck). When i pull back fast it engages sometimes. Everything is new (bought a recoil repair kit) .

Don't use any grease. I used it on mine one time and had the same problem you are having. The grease will make the pawl stick and when it gets cold out it's even worse. Take it apart clean all the grease out of it, wrap the spring up a little tighter, make sure it is all moving freely before you put it back on and you shouldn't have any more problem.

^ Ahh.. didn't think of the cold... My bad..

I dealt with that stuff a lot when I was out west, so it was 80*+ all the time. I used SeaFoam or WD on it a lot to get it to 'fling' out a little easier.
