87' skidoo citation 250 gas problem

Hi all, my skidoo has been giving me trouble by not sucking up gas. I took the whole feed assembly apart including pump and eventually found that hose in tank was rotted out. Tonight I finally got tank hose and put it all back together and i cant get it to suck up gas. When i pump the primer on it it makes the gas move in the tube but not enough to get to the carb. Please someone help me this is driving me insane!

Spritz some into the carb or through the plug holes, that will make it run long enough to get it to the fuel pump, then it should fill the lines nicely.

Let us know how you make out. I've got the same sled and can give some pointers too.

If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying it. I had the same problem and I had to keep pouring a little bit of gas down each cylinder and firing it up about 30 times on my mach 1 before it finally pumped the gas good enough to stay running.

well i went out and tried it and it did fire over about 5 times but then when i sprayed gas in it one time it wouldnt fire. I pulled and pulled and repeated the process of taking plug out and then spraying gas in cylinder then putting plug back, no fire. My kill switch was on and my key was on so those werent problems. I was thinking i may have put fuel pump back together the wrong way, i forgot how it was when i took it apart. I took it off and i felt some oil on the side of it so it may have been leaking. I dont know whats up with it not firing, did i possibly flood it? Did i possibly put together my pump wrong? Give me some suggestions, they're all good at this point.

Update: I went out and did as Twins had said and finally got it to fire for a second each time i pulled and did this about 30-50 times and still no go. I actually stopped because when i pulled it one time it made a loud bang noise and smoke began to pour out of the top of the head of the engine. Is that what happens when they say a machine backfires? or could it possibly be because some gas was pooling on the engine vents from where i squirted into plug holes and eventually combusted? It still isnt getting gas regularly though. I have a theory it may be because the line isnt in the gas in the tank, i put the old filter on it to weigh it down and still even lying in the gas with the filter its not sucking it to the carb.

You didn't tighten the plugs enough it sounds like... don't need to keep pouring it in the cylinders, do what RJ said and just spray it right into the carbs.

where do i spray it in the carb? theres a boot on each end, should i spray it in the top where the throttle cable goes in, or take 1 of the boot sides off and spray it in there, or is there someplace else? Sorry if i sound stupid but i just dont want to do it wrong.

First of all, replace the spark plug. It's fouled. Then remove the fuel line from the carb and pull it over to make sure fuel is shooting out of the line (fuel pump is working right). If it is, put it back on and remove the boot on the carb that is connected to the airbox and spray a little carb cleaner in there and pull it over. If it starts, the carb needs to be cleaned.

If no fuel is coming out of the line, the pump needs to be put back together correctly.
