Chaincase oil?

Its time to drain the chaincase oil. About how much oil would you guys put in a 2001 MXZ 500.

They take 7 to 8 oz. Use a good quality oil.

should i take off the whole chain case cover or just drain it? If so how would i go about doing this?

Some have a drainplug, some you take the cover right off. That way you can inspect the chain/gears while it's open, as well as the shaft bearing. Then replace the gasket, put the cover on, and add oil. Don't reuse the cover gasket.

some dont have cover gaskets. my 98 FZ 670 has a rubber oring that goes around the cover. i just replaced my chain gears and oil I just cleaned the mating surface and wiped down the rubber seal with syn chaincase oil.
