Question rebuilding a 700 triple what am i getting into

my 1998 grand touring 700se has a bad crank bearing. I have done a couple top ends on rotax engines, but never bottom end. before I get too deep into it, am I getting into a box of suprizes and bigger headaches? Or is it pretty straigt forward? I plan on getting a remanned crank from ski doo, and I have a ski doo tear down manual...any opinions on re-using pistons? Any tips or tricks are always appreciated...

If you're getting a new crank, it won't be that bad. Get some crankcase sealer, and an engine gasket set. Buy new rings for the pistons while you're at it.

that's what I wanted to hear...I don't need to worry about ignition timing or anything because it is indexed off the flywheel, right??

Mark you stator to the crank case mounts so that it goes back in at the exact same spot and you should have no problems.

that is a good idea... I was actually just trying to get the magneto off, but was unsucessful. I got the large 30mm nut off, but can't get the mag assy. to budge. It looks like there is a retaining ring on the I.D. but I can't get it out or even to move, is there a little trick to it or can I put a gear puller or something on it??

Are you talking the flywheel? You need a harmonic balancer puller to get it off.

the repair manual calls it a magneto. it is in the bell housing right under the pull start rewinder.
