Is 20 mpg possible with a 500 or 600 Ski-Doo?

Im on this ATV Connection Forums - Fuel economy, and this guy posts

Yikes, I figure atvs would do better than 20 mpg, my 600 carbed 2-stroke ski-doo gets 20+ imp mpg consistantly.
I cant get close to that with a 500 fan. His sig says he owns a 2007 Ski-doo GTX 500SS so I,m not sure what he is talking about.

fans really dont get fantastic gas mileage, they are jetted rich to keep cylinder temps down.

I was thinking less hp means better gas mileage. I have a friend with a 500 liquid Arctic Cat ZL 500 and we think its gets 12-15 mpg tops. Fast for a 500 though.

12-15 is great for a sled, my 580 efi gets 9-10, and the 440 fan gets 12-15. yes. most fans get good mileage, but they should not be considered efficient, they waste a lot of fuel with blow by etc. and the zl/zr era of cats are oil and gas guzzlers anyway, but not enough to keep me away from them.

I've never seen 20+ mpg consistently, though I have seen it once or twice. I think most 500ss' get somewhere like 16-18 mpg (trail riding).

THe new E-tec 600 is supposed to get 25 mpg. But 20 out of a carbed motor is kind-of pusshing it.

No way is he getting 20 mpg from a carbed motor. It would some to be so lean he would burn down. Injected...maybe

I have a Polaris 550 fan Trail Tour that gets barely 10-12 mpg. riding two-up. My Ski-Doo MXZ 670 liquid cooled gets about the same riding solo. With the current price of gas I'd kill for 20 mpg.

Fans get around 12-15MPG, 600SDI's get 19 consistantly. 500ss's (which are really 600 carbed) get 15 or so. No way he's getting 20+....
