gas guage is stuck

I need help trying to get at the mechanical gas guage on my 06 summit 600. It is stuck on 3/4 full and I have tried sticking a wire into the tank to loosen, and I see the guage jiggle a bit but does not free up.

The guage, I rarely use while riding as a keep track of time and miles, but sure would be handy to have working when filling the tank.

I have looked at the plastic etc around the tank and it is not obvious on how to disassemble to get at the tank. Looks like a big plastic nut around the tank hole.. maybe that is a way to get to the internals?

Those guages absolutely suck. My friend's 05 550fan is the same way. Looking at the microfiche, it seems that the guage is just pressed into the tank wit ha grommet.

Thanks a bunch for the link. Looks like it is a float on a stick.. weird. And like you say, I need to figure out how to pull the guage off the tank. By going straight up. Anyone out there with a trick to pull the guage up before I start prying with screwdrivers!

I'd suggest gently prying with a putty knife, etc. Or call a dealer and ask them how it comes out.

I used a flat blade screw driver to gently pry mine out. The problem with mine was that the shaft the float was on somehow ended up in a bind. I played with it for about a half hour and couldn't get it free. I ended up taking the float and shaft off. On the bottom of the shaft there is a taper that it pivots on. File a little of the tip, you will probly have to do this a few times and keep test fitting it till you get it to stop binding. Have heard of this problem on alot of REV's and aside from buying a new gauge, this is the fix. When you get it apart you will see what I mean. Any problems or questions let me know. Hope this helps
