On my 1999 500SL I run the stock steel skis with Bergstrom hard-bar wearbars and Bergstrom ski-savers. Very inexpensive and really does the trick. I didn't think the weight savings or lower resistance of the plastic is worth the extra money. Best bet for a seat is ebay. What you want is an S-chassis seat. Get the whole thing and bolt it on. I paid about $100 for one last year and it's in pretty good shape but I did have to replace the bolts which is simple. Pick up an owner's manual and go through the adjustments if you haven't done so already. The 500 fan is an all-around good, reliable machine.
