1990 Safari - Hard to start Hot

Hi,
I have a 1990 Safari 447cc. When I have been riding it for awhile and I turn it off and try to restart it within a short period of time, it is difficult to start. The only way I can start it is to hold the throttle part way to full open, then it will start. This is only if I try to restart it while it is warm, say within an hour. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Jeff

Having to hold the throttle slightly open means it may be leaking a little fuel by the carb inlet needle/seat when you shut it off, flooding it slightly.

My dad had an '04 REV 600 H.O. at the beginning of the season. We had the same problem except it just wouldn't start at all once it was warm. I loved the sled and i didn't want to see it go, but we got a quote from a mechanic saying we needed a complete refitting of gaskets and seals (which i didn't believe because it ran great when you were riding it, no ticks, no sputtering, no fowling) the guy wanted $1600 to do the work, so we opted to sell the machine and he found an srx 700 triple...

I've never heard of anyone else having this problem, wish it didn't occur to anyone!

you might want to check you compression, if you have low compression on one cylinder it can cause hard starts when warm
