looking for a vin decoder

hello everyone
I have a 93 plus 583 I just bought but on my ownership papers for model it says ART .. so i was wondering what model plus do i have? the hood says efi but its not the original hood and no its not an efi so is there a VIN decoder somewhere i can use? is there another way to find out which model it is? or maybe its just a normal plus here is a pic but it probably doesn't help

The first 4 numbers are the model. What are they?

Is that the number stamped into the side of the tunnel? There shouldn't be any letters.

that is the V.I.N. if there is another number on the tunnel i will have to look, maybe i can tomorrow, if not on the weekend, i don't kept the sled here
at the dmv it took them a long time to put it into my name they had to call main office to figure out what the letters were for, sled was bought in Quebec, I am in Cornwall Ontario

I am assuming this is the spot you mean the serial number is/or at least that is what the owners manual said

That metal plate is absolutely nothing like the ones we have here in the U.S. on SkiDoo snowmobiles- my guess it's there because either your sled was government property at one time (Quebec) or is an "assembled" vehicle of some kind. Any one read French?

IRONDOG is right. My 92 has 1/2" numbers stamped into the tunnel on the right side about halfway on the tunnel. Nothing like that.

well i called Ski-doo today to find out what is wrong with my vin and they didn't know what model i have. I was told there are many reasons why it would have a vin like that: first thing i was told that it could possibly be a prototype or exparimental model (I don't think so) there was some vin # not registered in there books for that reason (all model were just numbers in those years) also told something to do with goverment is also a possiblity (so far it all sounds funny to me)
i guess I will never know the exact model, if ski-doo doesn't know what it is how am i suppost to figure it out
well this summer i need to repair the hood and repaint, so maybe i should put new decales and call it a PLUS ?

maybe it was an EFI to start with and changed to a 583 R.A.V.E. but either way its not a vin that can be decoded, so i guess its a mystery machine...maybe i should paint it like the scooby-doo van

If you look on the front of the engine, just under the exhaust manifold, right next to the recoil, you might find an engine ID tag.

No idea, man. The right side of the tunnel on both of my Doos have large 1/2" numbers stamped right into the tunnel, and one is imported right from Ontario, so it's not just a USA thing.

i got a 93 plus 580...i would say your sled was a original EFI plus.. the only PRS ski-doo made with a red seat was the EFI.. the EFI seat was ALL red yours is only part red.. i would say somebody wanted to keep the red seat so they got some one to make a new seat cover with the red sides of the original because the red on your seat also has the white "ski-doo logo".... maybe the EFI's had that silver plate of the tunnle??..becuase they were a low production sled.

Connor,

thanks for the info, I was told the seat is the original, there are many wires that have been cutoff on the harness that goes to the engine, so they could have been for the efi... the more i have been reading about the efi model the more i think it was originally an EFI model, so the hood is probably the original just the engine is from a different machine, that still doesn't explain the V.I.N. but i guess it doesn't really matter, just would have been nice to know for sure
thanks for all the help

EFI chassis model number was 3799.

The 583 motor was used a lot and across several years. About the only differences were the carbs or add-ons like HAC.

I would guess there is a serial number on the motor somewhere, as it was out of some other machine.
