1996 Skidoo Formula STX information *help*

Hey, new to the boards here.

I just recently bought a 1996 Skidoo Formula STX 583 Twin for 1000$ localy. The guy said he rebuilt the rear suspenion with new bogeys, bearings, ect. Well, when he bolted the rails on, he must have not did too well of a job. After a weekend of riding, and over 100 miles, the bolt on the left rail came out somehow (without me knowing). Then since that happened, the right rail pretty much broke since all the weight was forced down on it I guess.

Im wondering if theres any other rear suspension for a 121" track, from maybe a Mach 1 or some other skidoo with nice suspension, would fit my machine. I just bought a new track from Camoplast, and im kinda wanting to test it out ANY help would be greatly appreciated, since Im new with snowmobiling maintnence. Im located in northern Minnesota, so if anyone knows any used Skidoo parts dealers or something, please let me know.

YOU DON'T MENTION WHICH SUSPENSION YOU ARE DEALING WITH
IF IT IS A SC-10 THEN TRY FINDING A SUSPENSION FROM A MXZ
UP TO '99 THERE A BIT MORE RUGGED THAN THE SC-10 THAT CAME IN YOUR SLED AND WILL HAVE GAS SHOCKS OR YOU CAN FIND A REPLACEMENT RAIL FOR THE ONE YOU GOT. THE REASON THE BOLT CAME OUT IS THERE ARE SMALL SHIMS THAT GO BETWEEN THE RAIL AND THE CROSS SHAFT THAT LEAVES JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE FRONT ARM TO MOVE IF THEY ARE MISSING THEN EVERYTIME THE ARM MOVES IT LOOSENS THE BOLT A LITTLE UNTIL IT FALLS OUT. IF YOU GO THE ROUTE OF REPLACING WHAT YOU HAVE GET A NEW CROSS SHAFT,NEWSHIMS
AND NEW BOLTS AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. I JUST GOT DONE FIXING A FREINDS FORMULA 500 THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

GOOD LUCK.

Ok Thanks, so your saying that a MXZ suspension up to a 99' will fit my sled? If so, THANKS! Dont really want to have to spend 340$ just to buy 2 new rails, since the bolt hole on the "good" rail was enlarged from the bolt being lose and rubbing up and down. Got any reccomendations on a site to use to find OEM skidoo parts? Or used parts?

you could take your good rail to a welding shop and have them weld the hole in and re drill it out.

YOU CAN PUT ANY SC-10 SUSPENSION IN THAT SLED, IN '99
THEY CAME OUT WITH THE SC-10-2, UP TO '99 THEY HAD A EXTRA
SET OF CARRIER WHEELS UP IN THE TUNNEL THAT ARE NOT USED
ON '99-UP, JUST REMOVE THOSE WHEELS AND NEWER SC-10'S WILL BOLT RIGHT IN.
