replacing main fuel jets skandic 600 lc

I have been thinking of changing the main jets in my 2002 skandic widetrack 600 lc . Right now it has two 330 jets in carbs (manufactures spec.s), I plan on replacing them with two 310 . Not exactly sure what I am doing here other than trying to reduce fuel consumption . Any help greatly appreciated . Widetrack man .

You will need to monitor plug color to be sure that you are not running lean if you do this.
When you check the plugs now, what color are the electrode insulators?
They should have a nice dark tan color on them. Black is rich and lighter to grey/white is lean.

All changing jets will do is lean it out! You can burn down the motor at higher RPM's. I'd leave it, but if you need to , do what RJ said. Tread very carafully, grasshopper.....

Having lived in Alberta and ridden the mountains of Alta and BC, the only reason to replace the jets in your sled is if it was set up by a dealer from sea level and now it is above 1000ft. Main jets are changed to compensate for altitude and temperature changes.....NOT fuel economy. Many engines have been burned down due to those not sure what they're doing. Thought you should know!!!

still burning alot of fuel, still scratching my head ,'02 swt

Like I said all I am trying to do here is reduce fuel consumption . This machine is giving me about 80 - 90 km's per tank of gas , that is trail riding between 20 and 50 km per hour, that is alot of fuel . I realize everyone is telling me not to change jets and the risks associated with it but I have to try something . I'd be happy to leave the jets alone if I could reduce fuel somewhat some how. Does anyone have any other ideas on reducing fuel consumption . I have gone through carb's everyhting is good , float height , needles, cable adjustments, I have syncronized carbs as well , I have cleaned RAVE valves on front of engine and opened them up as far as they can be opened . I seriously don't know what else to do other than try the jets . Any other suggestions greatly appreciated . Widetrack man .

You can change clutching on it to change the powerband, but the results will be minimal. Smaller sled is the only real way to do it. Think about it, if your car uses a lot of fuel, what do people usually do (after tune-ups, etc.) - trade it. There is no way to reduce fuel consumption without jeopardizing the powertrain of your sled.
