93 mach 1 670 rotax brake problem

hey all,im havin probs with my 93 mach 1. i was riding just down the road from my house and i was coming up on a turn so i hit the brakes, kinda hard and my sled came to a skidding stop. i did not know exactly what happened and my sled would then not move, it would simply run the rpms up pretty high then barely roll along burning the belt up. so after this happened, i walked home and we got the sled back to the shop. it is now sitting there and after much thinking i managed to figure out it was the brakes. i thought the chain broke but the chain is not BROKE, i know this because it does move, but at a VERY high rpm. after parking it in the shop i took the exhaust all off, to better see.

i can now see both the brake pads firmly against the rotor. any idea why the brakes are locked/hung up?

The pads hung due to needing adjustment.
Now it will be better to just replace them as they are quite worn down.

kk, dial up is realllllly slow
i just ran out to the shop, like i said before, i dont have a whole lot of experience but the pads dont look to be really worn, about 1\2 to 3\8 inch of pad left on the one side, and both sides look to be evenly wore.

it is all pretty rusty and worn... its a 93... i dont know how well it was maintained.

As the pads wear, they get thinner and if the push rod is not adjusted, it gets to the point that it jams.

Remove the hitch pin that lets you take the pads out (It's a long pin like the ones that hold the belt guard on). Then you'll have to remove the caliper and lubricate it. Also replace the belt. If you smoked it, it WILL need replacing.

If hydraulic brakes, check the small pinhole in the reservoir for clogs . If you can push the caliper pistons back you will see fluid returning through this pin hole, if not, it maybe clogged. A heavy sewing needle works the best to clear the orifice. If the pistons (pucks) are pitted you will have to replace them, check the caliper for any rust or debris. Make sure the brake line is clean ( when cleaning this line use denatured alchol only ) You can push the brake pistons back by hand if the system is free and clear. Regards, Doug
