Electrical problems on 500 Legend

I'm looking for advice for an electrical problem. I have a '02 500 Legend with RER and Elec. Start. A week ago the wife started it up and there was no headlight, brake light, or heated grips. I tested out the stator and thought that was the problem. Swapped it out and there was no change. Did some more investigating and found out that when I disconnected the battery the thing died. Left it disconnected and tried pull starting it and it wouldn't start. Reconnected the battery and then it would pull start. I thought it was crazy, but maybe someone could make sense of it.

I would appreciate any help, since I want to get one last trip in this weekend.
