Of course I've ridden a dirt bike. And no you don't lean into turns on a dirtbike a lot of the time, you're right.

But I guarantee there is no conversion kit for a snowmobile. That's what I meant.

I had to 'remake' a twist grip on my mini-bike so that's where I'm coming from... Like I said, twist throttle's aren't exactly mechanical achievements... To add handlebar heaters to the equation you just have to make sure there is enough slack in the wires to ensure that you have full operation of the twist throttle. Put them in a box so it doesn't look bad with the extra wires hanging...
Here's an illustration...

You just have to get a throttle cable custom made to the right length and you are done. I didn't add the throttle cable insulation (or whatever the term would be for it) to the illustration but you can figure it out...
I previously said there was grease inside of the twist throttle to allow the movement. I'm not sure what exactly allows the movement. My guess is a bearing with grease, and this grease will not be low-temp grease meaning it will be hard to operate/freeze in cold conditions.

All that said, I still don't think it would be possible to steer a snowmachine with a twist throttle. The movement is just too awkward, it's nothing like the handlebar movement of a dirtbike IMHO. Instead of moving 1 tire with 10% of the vehicle weight on it, you're moving 2 ski's with 80% of the vehicle weight on them. Not to mention a dirtbike weighs between 60-150lbs compared to a snowmachine's 450-700lbs. Combine that with the fact that you lean you're body off of the snowmachine when turning, as opposed to remaining centered to the dirtbike and leaning the whole thing. Turning a dirtbike takes no effort... it takes alot of juice to get my ski's to turn from lock to lock while at a stand still... and then once you're moving you have to lean, which is hard enough to do with a static handlebar instead of one that twists. Try making a left hand turn without giving it more throttle... There is no way its possible with a twist set-up.

Please ignore the inaccuracies of the handlebar warmer... too hard to draw.

The thing to check first would be to adjust the throttle position. Mine was tireing on the hands but i turned it up a bit and it was good. Another thing that i though of was riding with a twist throttle wide open for a while, Wouldnt you hand/arm get really cold? That puts your arm in a position where wind could become a big factor to being cold. Like it blowing up your sleve or down your glove. Just a thought.

WOW...I am suprised you guy's took this thread this far.

I am suprised how many took my statement so harshly. Whatever....not trying to be the popular guy....just comfortable.

BTW the twist grip works great and I have put 6000 miles on the sled since installing it. And your complaining about snow. I see why the "hey bro get over yourself..and such comments are made. Hell look at the snow outside right now. Hehe.

Take care fella's
Kevin

Thanks! I am havin a blast in all this snow! It snowed yesterday and left a few more inches to ride on. We are going on an all nighter tonight. We found a huge pit area that has monster jumps all over it. What a rush! I am new to this snowmobiling thing but not bad at it. I am looking for something closer to the feel of a dirtbike next year. I love this machine but it lacks suspension that is long enough (I am 6'3" 220lb) and a motor that pulls hard enough. Any idea's on a suitable machine? I like air and lots of low end power. Not a top end kind of guy but lots of power from the hole to around 70. I never hit a jump going that fast anyway. Usually under 50 when hitting them. Getting too old to be breaking my bones anymore...MX days are over for that reason.

Take care fella's,
Kevin

The snow here in Syracuse area NY was just plain crappy this year. But its down into the 20's today so we may get one more blast. Next year I'm buying a trailer. Theres still a good 2 foot about 30 miles north of me

Hey, nice pic - lotsa snow1 Looks like my front yard in NL. Had another 10 cm (ok, 4" ) today.

Not hijacking the thread - I have thought about a twister too, and glad to hear it works. I had a Doo Citation once that was awful hard on the thumb - flapper in the wrong posoition.

I think you would like the 600 REV HO it packs a lot of power and the rider position I think will suit your needs.

I thought about putting on a twist too but you guys raise some good points. I still want to try it. If it suck I'll put my old one back on lol. If buddies thumb get sore rig up a foot pedal. Haha now that would be sick. Too bad your runners get full of now and stuff.
