99 mach z hard starting...not getting gas?
hi every one i hope someone can help me . i have a 99 mazh z 800 triple and it is verry hard to start when it is cold usually i have to prime it but as soon as it does catch it will start first pull every time untill about a day and u will have to prime it again. i can pull it as much as i want with or without choke and the plugs dont get wet so its mostlikley a gas issue but i have had all the carbs fully rebuilt and cleaned by dealer. also it has stock pipes but 3 seperaite racing cans, would cans without the propper carb modding cause hardstarting?

My 98 Z 800 does the same thing. They had a really weird fuel pump in them that they could also use for racing, andthe dealer told me they are the culprit. They are really high flow, but allow for the lines to drain back into the tank over time. He suggested to me to shut the fuel off and see if that prevents the backflow.

Unfortunately, I don't think they make kits for those pumps anymore. Maybe try to find a replacement pump on eBay or something. If you can find a check valve for it, it might work, but the fuel line is literally like a 1/2" tube; it's huge.

hi again... i was talking to my local ski-doo dealerand the mechanic told me that my problem could be a base gasket or seal and he has never heard of any fuel pump poblems such as smallengineguy sudgested, he also said it could be bad compression or carb float needle and or seals. can anyone comment or relate to this? i really dont want to have toput it in the gradge i dont really trust those guys ive seen them work and they dont seem to care about the machine they are trying to fix plus i dont want to spend 60 bucks an hour cane someone please help? srry for the long post...

If it were a seal, it'd run like crap all the time, if it were compression, it'd run like crap all the time, if it were a base gasket, it'd run like crap all the time......If you take the guy's advice who has the same sled with the same problem, I'd stick with the fuel pump issue...

hey sorry to bring back an old post but im still really troubled with this problem and i cant figure it out. i have narrowed it down to the fuel system if you pull it over after being layed up for 2 or 3 days the center plug gets covered with gas but the 2 outside plug are dry, it has 140 psi compression on all cylinders... and if you prime it it will start for about 3 seconds and die out again and after it dies out all the plugs are wet i get the same results with or without choke... can somebody please help me ps i have just put on a new fuel pump and im wondering if it could be the valve seat in the carb or the fuel lines needing to be replaced?
