Question how does RER work

hey guys im wondering how it works...does it make the actual motor spin the opposite direction or what?

what would happen if you pushed the button with the sled revving at like 3500 rpm?

is it known to cause problems and make motors blow up?

Thanks for the help

You are correct. The spark timing is electronically retarded to make the engine run in reverse. There is a specific RPM range that this all happens in. If you are outside that range and push the button, nothing happens. Nice safety feature. To my knowledge RER has not caused any mechanical problems.
