2004 Legend 500 bogs above 5000 rpm

I have a dual carb Legend 500 that use to start really bad and after I cleaned the carbs it now starts good, but revs high and as soon as you start moving the throttle to go above 5000 rpm to move (even after warm up) the engine bogs down to a stall unless you release the throttle.

The only way to get it to move is use the choke and then it will go, but not to full throttle (about 1/2 throttle) before it bogs. If I use full choke, I can get up to about 2/3 throttle if I go slowly, but can't punch it or it stalls.

I jump started the battery for the electric starter with a car battery once and hope I didn't fry anything in the process. I checked the fuzes several times and even replaced them just in case.

I cleaned the carbs twice and then had a buddy clean them and blow them out with a compressor.
I removed and cleaned the high speed valves on the front of the engine (no help).
I checked the muffler for blockage-none.
I replaced the plugs several times.

Does anyone know of electrical issues or other options?

your issue still seems to be the carbs, have you made sure the float heights are correct? check the fuel pump for proper operation. have you removed the main and pilot jets and made sure they were clean? did you do anything with the needle?

Jump starting won't hurt it at al, but I would get a battery for next season. Go to the engine section of this forum, then click on how-to's. There is an in depth carb cleaning instruction there.

Thanks. I will look at tearing apart the floats again.

What is the best way to check the fuel pump? Any easy suggestions?

Remove the lines from the carbs and pull it over. Fuel should dribble out of the lines. If it doesn't start to dribble after 3 to 5 pulls, rebuild the pump.
