1985 467 Liquid possible problem???
Fired up the old Doo today, and when I started it, the Oil light was on, and the Tach was bouncing between 0 and 1000 rpms. I hit the brake, and the oil light went out after I released the brake lever. Shut the machine off. Started it 10 min later, and tach worked fine and oil light only came on when I hit the brake lever....so all seemed fine.
Does this sound like a possible intermittent oil pump problem? Or just a freak thing?
Also, how many gal. of gas does the tank on an 85 Formula MX 470 hold?
thanks

sounds like you had a bit of an electrical glitch, maybe the brake switch was sticking. just keep an eye on it, not suew on the gas capacity

Maybe a dual purpose light? I had a 95 Mach 1 that when you hit the brake the red light would come on as an indication the the brake light was working. Light would not come on when the tail light was burned out or removed. The red light was also an indicator that the oil level was low. Maybe you had a sticky brake switch when you first started it . Just a guess but I think it may hold 10 galllons of fuel.

Probably brake switch was skittish at first. Holds roughly 8 gallons.

What scares me, is the fact that the tach was bouncing between 0 and 1000 rpm, and doesn't the tach run off the oil pump? The sled idles at around 3000 rpm when it's cold, so the needle only bouncing as high as 1000 rpm is definately not normal. I could understand if the sled idled really low, but it doesn't.

the tach is completely electrical, has nothing to do with the oil pump

NOt connected in any way to the oil pump. You may have a grounding problem with the tach.

Ok, thanks....I'm used to Yamahas where the tach runs off the oil pump. I feel better now.
