reverse grinding on 600 deluxe 2000

I just purchased a 2000 600 formula deluxe and the reverse is grinding when engaged.I have had the casing apart and the gears look good. Would the chain being loose cause this problem? I haven't pulled the pin to tighten yet but when the casing was opened it seemed tight on sprokets.I have tried tighting the linkage to the shift fork but still have the same problem. The track will roll in reverse when no load on it but will grind when dropped on the ground. I have noticed on some forums that it might be the 3 spring pins are worn on the back side of the lower sproket. any idea's?

I would say try tightning the cable. It might not be fully engaging. This happened once to my wifes sled. Tightning the cable solved the problem.

Thanks small engine. I needed to here that from someone. I heard from one other that this is a common problem with skidoo (bad design). I will order parts now.
