Whats wrong with th 800 engine?

I just read a post in google that a bunch of the 800 engines are blowing up? Something about leans conditions due to exhaust bolts? some sort of rubber gasket. I have an 04 GSX LTD HO. Do I have this PTech engine in mine? Can someone explain this problem to me.

Thanks Brett

I don't know but from what info you just gave me I would guess that the exhaust is opening up some how and creating a lack of backpressure which would allow more air in tho the sys causing a lean condition. Same reason you would jet a carb or prog a chip when you pipe the engine

Go to DOOTalk.com and check there. The 2004 engines had a problem with the piston rings flaking, but that's all I heard of.

I read it at Doo talk and I think it was the 03's that had the piston ring problem. I will give my sled the once over today to see if I can tell if mine has these issues.

my 03 800 X has blown 3 times in 1600kms! we now have it figured to a lean condition linked to needles in carbs. there are updated ones we are going to try. I will keep you guys posted. from my experience some of the 8's are great and some troublesome. my first motor was dome due to ring flaking, the second we now know was due to the needles set wrong by dealer to fix a low rpm flooding issue which leaned it way out up top and mid. the 3rd was also a result of this because the 2nd one was diagnosed by same dealer who built it first time as rod bearing failure(even though piston tops were burnt) so we now are building it again and it will work. luckily the last one was only 1 piston with no other damage.
