'05 scandic gear box

My scandic sled that I use on the trapline has an oil leak at the output end of things.. It is not the seal as I first suspected but rather it is leaking from around the OD. of the steel "sleeve" that is fitted into the aluminium trans. case. This same sleeve is also the seal retainer for the output seal. The sleeve also acts as a pilot for the trans. when fitted thru the tunnel. It is loose in the bore of the main case and I don't know what is to seal the oil from leaking by this loose fit. The parts and service manual do not show this set up . I've been on the phone half the day talking to people in the know and they are not aware of such an arrangement. If they are looking at their books, I can understand why and that's cuz it doesn't show it in those books Who please can help me SAP???

Welcome, I think that if nobody in the industry wants or can help you may have to take it to someone to have something to fab you a new part. At last resort comes time to try something like JB Weld but whate to see that on a 05 .

OnlineMicrofiche Index will show you the microfiche on what should be there. It sounds like it wore excessively.

if your talking the chaincase its easy to unbolt and check it out. just take the gears/chain off, the caliper and there are some bolts holding it to the tunnel. pop it off and see whats up with it.

Exclamation remember that leaking gear box ?

Well , after pulling the trans from my skandic , the local dealer said he would make good the repairs to it even though it was past warranty . Thankfully, I didn't cost him to much, being as generous as he was to me. I found it real hard to believe that Bombardier would hold this -loose - fitting part in place with nothing more than -get this - LOCKTITE ..I know those people make some great fastening products but don't you people at Bombardier really think this is pushing the envelope well past it's limits. Their biggest concern was, is it was past warranty? It was,as I said my dealer who went the extra mile for me and not the factory. And if any other units out there have been glued together, they will come loose as well..READ AND HEED...
Shame on you Bombardier (now I feel better)

skandic trans

As I said before ,it was the output seal retainer/tunnel pilot sleeve that was very loose in the aluminium trans housing. This ia a one piece trans housing(rev,hi&lo range) I believe that other trans' with just Fwd/Rev are a split case so not everyone has seen exactly what I have.. I took it for a rip this aft. and -touch wood- all appears to be OK
