Cool I'm buying a 1997 MXZ 440

Hey guys, I'm buying a 1997 MXZ 440 From my uncle, My uncle is the auto-motive business and owns severaly succesful Auto-Body Shops, He's taken very good care of this sled and he treats it like a member of his own family, As far as I know this sled is yellow, Fan cooled, Electric and Pull start. I'm paying 2250$ (Canadian Currency) For the Sled or around that price. It's in very good condition. What do you think of the sled i'm buying? It's my first sled and i'm only 14 years old. Does this sled have enough power for me? And what abouts is it's top speed. Thanks alot.

- Please tell me what you think... And remember this is 2250$ Canadian Dollars, Not american. Thanks.

I knew you were going to ask that, It's just something for looks, those stickers aren't on the sled now.

Nice sled. As far as the other question Treat it with respect. A tree, rock or other can stop you DEAD they don't care if you are going 20 ph or 120 ph. Don't let this beautiful sled be your last ride.

Ww! Is it new? Looks like it just came off the showroom! 440 is plenty of power for you, especially on a first sled.

I think that it is a good deal. Might want to hold off for a LC.. It is a big difference from the fan.

At first I was going to buy a 1996 MXZ 583 Twin Liquid Cooled, But this sled is in better condition and the 440 is one year newer and plus, I know the owner of the 440. MY dad also said that if the Rotary Valve blows on the 583 it can cause tons of trouble in the engine and would be about one thousand Canadian dollars to repair, And with something that is fan cooled, It's less likely to break down.

Just for Reference, I just bought a 96 MXZ 583 with 2000 miles that was in MINT condition (until the tree jumped in front of it Sunday) AND a 97 MXZ 670 with 4000 miles (Not showroom, but very clean) for $2200 Total. Both sleds run great and look the same. I ran across a 99 MXZ 440 with 1100 miles and a 99 MXZ 600 2500 miles for $2400 as well. The deals are out there, for sure.

Whooooah, Are you saying you bought both those sleds for 2200$? That must be American currency right?

Yes, that is US Dollars. The 670 needed 3 boggie wheels Thats it.

My Buddy got a 1999 AC ZL 600 EFI with 2300 miles for $1500 and a 99 ZR 500 with 3300 miles (with a new motor)for $1200. We took them all up this weekend and rode all 3 days. Had a Blast! I'm gonna love this sport.

What you're paying is a fair price. It's not a steal, but you're not getting ripped off either. The sled looks to be in great condition and the 440 should be lots for your first snowmobile. When you become bored, you'll just have to upgrade, plus you can take fan cooled sleds out for a rip in the summer
What's the mileage?
Where in Canada are you?

I'm in manitoba, The sled was driven in trails, So that means theres not much wear and tear, And my uncle is doing a Full front to back inspection and cleaning before handing it to me, He's also cleaning out the filters and engine. (He's a mechanic aswell and a body fabricator) But theres one more thing, Some people in my family are saying that Fan Cooled is the wimpy way to go, How much better is liquid cooled, And isn't liquid cooled a little more likely to stop working and cause that oh so beautiful "Magical Blue Smoke" You wouldn't want that happening would you? Please post the pros and cons of Fan vs. Liquid.

Liquid:
Pro's
More Power
Better cooling potential (reason for more power)

Con's
Heavier
Less reliable
Can over-heat in low-snow conditions

Fan:
Pro's
Very reliable
No added weight from parts or coolant
Doesn't rely on snow to keep cool
Will reach operating temperature faster than liquid (ie. less time standing around waiting for it to warm up)

Con's
Less cooling potential, therefore less power

My first sled was a one cylinder 1988 citation, topping out at a whopping 80 km/h with the wind, and downhill. With about 3 inches of suspension travel. The 440 will be a great sled to learn the ropes on, and you being 110lbs it will be a lot easier to yank it out of the fluff when you get stuck.

I was looking for sleds for 2 months before I bought those. Right now, there is the same MXZ 583 in the paper with 700 more miles for $2200, and a 1 yr newer 670 with 4000 miles for $2100. Personally, those are a bit high in my mind, but seems the avg was $1500 to $2000. I think your price is fair, but if you look harder, as I did, you will find the deals. Kinda like Buy one, get one free.
