1993 skidoo

hi all, i am kinda new to the forum. i was a member a while back when i put a rotax 340 on a gokart and needed some help. you all help to the max. now, i just bought a 1993 ski-doo formula plus x rave 600cc. it was sittin for a while and i just got it started after like 1/2 hour of trying. anyone on here know anything on these sleds? i was told that it was a race sled from ski-doo but that was back in its time. it only has 2000 miles on it which i thought was low, but i don't know. can anyone fill me in on these sleds that know's about them. thanks.

The "X" had 40mm carbs, a different rotary valve setup, different front suspension components, different gearing, etc. The engine is a 617 and they STOMPED back in the day....

These were factory race sleds, very fast. The front suspension is a couple of inches wider then the regular sleds. As mentioned the Engine was also different in that it was wide for the day I guess. It probably has a "upgraded" rear shock and a better seat then the regular plus. I believe it is a little more valuable then most pluses, I personally have interest in them due to liking the regular pluses so much. Do yourself a favour and check the rivets which hold the heat exchangers to the tunnel. On mine they became worn, pulled through and lead to the tunnel actually cracking around the rear of the tank area. All you have to do is replace any that are loose. The heat exchangers are a key support member for these sleds. One other tip, keep out of the trees !!! the hood as you know has no bumper and due to them getting damaged alot those hoods are a mint to replace.

My thoughts.

hi,
well, i started the sled up today and had it running just a bit. sounds like it has mad power but that will tell when put to the test. i checked the rivets and all are good. i'm still in the prosses of putting this sled back to normal. the story go's, the original owner( norm )of this sled road with his brother-in-low and his brother-in-low did an oopp's with his sled and died, so after that happen norm parked the sled and never road again. sled sat in a shed for years. i was into karts and had a 340 rotex on a kart. one of my friends decided to build a kart with a snowmobile engine too and bought this sled off of norm and took it apart to use all the engine parts and what ever he needed. but at the time i had sold my kart and my friend lost intrest on building a kart. so it sat for two more years. then i was going to put the sled on ebay for my friend but i decided to keep it for me. i put the sled all back together and thats were i am now. but this sled is all their and in good condition. and the track was new at the tim of it sittin. so now i wanna have fun with this thing but i need to make sure its all put together right before i do any riding.so, dose anyone know were i can download like a shop manual?that would really help.thanks. i hope i didn't bore anyone with the sled story.

Don't know of anywhere to download it, I see them on ebay quit alot. A Chilton's should run you 40 bucks and aren't too bad. The Skidoo manuals are more like 100+. If you do find one online let me know.

One other thing that I forgot to mention was that you should get your clutches checked out by someone who know's what they are doing. I never had mine done and now there is a lot of wear damage that cannot be inexpesnively fixed. Better to pay some now then a WHOLE LOT later.

CLymer makes a "formula series" manual, like $20. That's the one I have, very informative. Do a eBay search on Ski Doo Clymer.

well, i just put the sled all together and all i have is three words.O MY GOD. ok, two words and one letter. i was having problems starting the sled and the plugs getting wet, so i took the carbs off and cleaned them really good which their were cloged with old gas, and the first pull. bam started right up. crazy but took it out in the field, and punched her and my god. the front came off like three feet. had to go change my undies. then hit it again and this time i played with the throttle to keep the front off the ground for a good distance. man. all i can say is for a 1993 this thing has mad torqe and lots of it. i'm just so glad that i fixed the problem. now she starts the first pull. thanks all.

thanks bro,
it is very fast. i really don't know too much about sleds but i do know when something has lost of torq. i should have had my boy take a pic of me doing a wheelie on this thing. i was talking with the original owner of the sled and he told me that when he use to ride with his friend that they would take him on the turns and stuff but when it came to full out throttle they had no chance. i'm not out to race but thats nice to know. this is my summer toy.

Nice bike, but it's not restored, it's modified. If it was restored it would have 4 individual chrome exhausts and some other things that are missing.Jerry
