Can someone help me w/ a problem I am having. 1980 Yamaha 440 SS no spark. I unplugged the kill switch and the key switch and tested the continuity and it seems alright. Continuity between swithces and the end of the switch wires that end up at the cdi box. All conections seem to be ok. I have a muti meter but do not have a service manual and do not know how to test the CDI, coil or the magneto. What wires do I use and what am I looking for? Does anyone have a service manual for this sled? This sled sat outside for years before I aquired it. Thanks, Jeff

I'd say the CDI is bad. Does it have 2 coils? What are the odds BOTH went bad??

No it has only one coil for two cylinders. How do I test the CDI?

You usually can't test them because they are electronic (too many components to check). Can you find a CDI to test it with (eBay)?

I looked on ebay but the only ones I found are for srx and it shows a different number. If i knew it was the cdi I would buy one for sure but it is kind of a gamble because if it is not the cdi this sled is not worth throwing parts at until I find the problem.

Maybe check the vintage supplier list in the misc parts section of this forum?

Check if there is voltage before the CDI and then after. If there is voltage before, but none after, the CDI is bad.

I would like to do that but since I have no wiring diagram or service manual I do not know which wires to test or what the voltage should be. I think there are about six wires.

i have a 1980 srx 440 that i bought the wrong cdi box i have one for a 440ss if yours has a orange and a black wire together and then red, white, black wires together this one should work
