96 Grand Touring SE 700 question?

Hi there.
I have a 1996 Grand Toruing SE with the 700 triple Rotax engine. For the life of me I can't figure out how to access the battery. The machine is stuck in my garafe and I need to replace /boost battery to get it ready for the season.
Thanks

Step 1; Clean out garage.
Step 2; Find something that looks like a snowmobile.
Step 3; Lift hood, look for battery
Step 4; If unsucessful at #3, confirm sled has electric start.
Step 5; If #4 is yes, follow heavy wires from starter to solenoid to battery.
Step 6; Replace/charge battery as reqired.
Step 7; Replace sled back into your giraffe , I mean garage!
Step 8; Wait for snow

Sorry, peterwb, couldn't help messin' with ya'! I chuckled the way your question was written...all in good fun! Sort of the hazing we do here with newbies!!

It should be under the hood next to the recoil side of the engine.

Ha Ha Ha ....

Yes the sled does have an electric start. The battery is now where to be found when you lift the engine cowel. A dealer told me it was under air fileter but I have no idea how to remove air cover. The answer lies in the head of someone whonows this particular model.
thanks.

Remove the air box (should come out as one whole piece with a little perserverance).Should be under there? Like IRs said, follow the red wire back from the starter on the engine.

I guess my problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the airbox.

I know on my wife's 93, there are 2 screws that hold the airbox in. Remove those 2 screws and it should lift up and out.

rod rabby I have the same sled 98 model air box has two rubber clips holding it on carbs. The cooling line is also clip to the air box on left side from driver seat. You will have to work at it a bit. The battery will behind the steering shaft, the oil tank is moulded around it.I also had problems with the oil tank it was cracked under the low oil sending unit. had to replace it. what a job.hope this helps.
