Tach not working at low rpm....
I started up my '00 MXZ 700 yesterday and noticed that the tach wasn't working at idle, but when I rev it up it seems to work fine.... Is this something that I should be concerned about? What do you think?
I just bought it, so I don't know if this is a new problem or what.

How do the grip warmers, lights, etc. work? It may either be the tach itself, the voltage regulator, or the stator. My sled started out that way. The tach would only work above 3000RPM or so, then the grip warmers quit. it was the stator.

I didn't check if the lights were working or not.
What's a new stator worth?

New, its probably worth more than the sled!...
If your lucky you can find a used one for next to nothing.

hopefully it's not the stator.... I'll have to check it over and maybe bring it to the local ski-doo guy.

I just went out and fired the mxz up (sounds great!). The lights are working fine and the tach seems to be working as well. Only when the revs dropped way down initially did the tach glitch out a bit.
I'm thinking maybe the DESS wasn't on completely the last time I started it, as I had the red light blinking first and then noticed the tach problem.
I think I might have been concerned about nothing at all.

Mine does the same thing. When the sled is real cold, the rpms drop to a level where the tach just dies. I;m hoping the stator is okay, I don't wanna drop $200 to find out mine was fine

Like I said, my tach did that, then the warmers quit, then it got hard to start. If it's just the tach, I'd not worry about it yet.
